PARKS, PLAYGROUNDS AND TRAILS

You and your family can enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation activities at the following locations:

PARK RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Park Hours 7:30 AM - 10:00 PM (March 1 - October 31)
    7:30 AM - Dusk (November 1 - March 1)
  • Please keep your park clean and beautiful. Prevent littering and vandalism.
  • All pets must be on a leash and under control at all times. No pit bulls or aggressive dogs allowed.
  • No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs allowed.
  • No firearms are allowed.
  • Permits must be obtained from the Parks & Recreation office to reserve park facilities or use the park for any prohibited use.
  • No golf permitted, except in designated areas.
  • Placing posters or signs prohibited except by permit.
  • Selling of merchandise is prohibited except by permit.
  • Sound truck advertising is prohibited.
  • Building fires is prohibited except in grills or by permit.
  • Fishing is prohibited.
  • Swimming is prohibited in lakes, ponds and streams.
    Speed limit throughout the park is 15 mph.
    Motorized vehicles are confined to the paved roads and parking areas unless otherwise directed by a police officer or Parks Department employee.
  • Only licensed drivers are to operate motorized vehicles inside the park. Driving lessons are prohibited.
  • Skateboarding, skating and biking is prohibited in the spectator or bleacher areas of athletic fields during games or practices.
  • No motorized vehicles are allowed on paved trails excluding electric powered apparatuses used to assist disabled persons.

 

GREENWAY RULES and REGULATIONS

  • Greenway shall be open from dawn to dusk year round.
  • Prevent littering and vandalism.

THE CENTER
401 North Main Street
The Center is a multi-use community facility that also houses the Parks and Recreation department. The facility has class/meeting rooms, dressing rooms, indoor track, basketball court/auditorium, and weight and exercise rooms. The Center may be rented for banquets, class and family reunions, seminars, wedding receptions, concerts, etc. by calling for details and availability.

A variety of programs and classes are offered periodically throughout the year. Contact The Center for schedules and availability of the classes. Some of them are as follows:
Gymnastics - Classes available through Charles Harding School of Creative Arts teaching tumbling and basic gymnastics.

Art Classes - Youth and adult classes offering basic drawing, oil painting color theory, etc.

Dance - Beginning ballet and jazz, basic dance position, bar exercise, turns and movement.

Wildlife - Learn more about the habits of outdoor critters, how to attract songbirds and butterflies.

EXERCISE OPTIONS AT THE CENTER

Creating an exercise routine utilizing several of the exercise amenities will provide you with the best overall results for strength, fat burning, and cardiovascular workout. Always drink plenty of water prior to, during, and after your workout. Continue drinking water after your workout to replenish the fluid lost during exercise. In the event you have not participated in a structured exercise program in the past six months, consult your doctor prior to beginning a new program.

Parent/guardian must accompany children at all times. You must be at least 14 years old to use exercise machines.

The Center is closed to membership occasionally due to special arrangements.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Free Fishing Rodeo Travis Price Park-second Saturday in June for children 14 years and under. Bring your gear. No artificial bait. Prizes awarded.
4th of July Celebration Free Admission. Enjoy the music, games, and rides at Travis Price Park. Festivities end with a fireworks extravaganza. Always on the 4th.
Summer Concert Series Mid July - Mid September. Each Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Free concerts featuring a different musical genre weekly to meet many interests. Bring a lawn chair.
2008 Summer Concert Series
Winter Wonderland Free admission. Follow the lighted trails at Travis Price Park and enjoy the festive holiday scenes, decorations, music and maybe catch a glimpse of Santa Clause.

 
     

 

PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
The Parks and Recreation Board is comprised of seven (7) members who serve without compensation. One (1) of the members is appointed at-large by the Mayor to serve as chairperson and the other six (6) members are each appointed by the alderman of their ward. Each member serves a term of four (4) years.

The Parks and Recreation Board, in conjunction with the Director of Parks and Recreation, formulates policies, regulations and rules for the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department. All individual citizens, civic clubs, committees, businesses, special interest groups, charitable organizations, or other entities desiring to use park properties or facilities exclusively, or to execute an agreement regarding concessions, must seek approval through the Parks and Recreation Department prior to beginning the activity or event.

Duties of the Parks and Recreation Board include formulating and recommending a three (3) to five (5) year parks and recreation capital plan, formulating with the Parks and Recreation Department all parks and recreation rules and regulations and recommending same to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, communicating to the public the importance of parks and recreation services and informing the public of the status and progress of said services, and formulating fees and charges to be recommended to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for adoption.
