GENERAL INFORMATION
The City of Springfield owns and operates
two cemeteries: Elmwood Cemetery at 1029
Richard Street and Odd Fellows Cemetery,
which is located next to Hail & Cotton
on South Main Street. The cemeteries are
accessible to visitors seven days a week
during daylight hours.
Elmwood Cemetery was deeded to the city
in June, 1987; however, it is an old cemetery
with many historical markers and monuments.
It contains approximately thirty (30) acres
in a beautiful setting with rolling hills
and large trees.
The city took over Odd Fellows Cemetery
in August of 1993 at the request of the
property owners. This cemetery contains
only 4 ½ acres. When the cemetery
was turned over to the city, it had not
been maintained for years. At the time of
the transfer, no records were provided to
the city regarding burials and the location
of graves. Cemetery employees are researching
grave locations and the names of individuals
buried there. If you know of anyone buried
at Odd-Fellows Cemetery, please contact
the cemeteries office at 382-1656. Any information
will be greatly appreciated.
CEMETERY COMMISSION
A seven member Cemetery Commission advises
the City on the establishment of policies
and operation of the cemeteries. The members
represent each of the six city wards, with
one at-large appointment made by the Mayor.
Commission members serve a two-year term
and meet annually, or more often if necessary.

CEMETERY PERSONNEL
The cemeteries are staffed by two full-time
employees. They are responsible for maintaining
the grounds and records at both cemeteries,
including landscaping, mowing, maintaining
monuments, opening and closing graves, leveling
graves, clean-up, repair and maintenance
of equipment, as well as customer service.
They can be located at Elmwood Cemetery
Monday - Friday between the hours of 6:30
a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
EVENING AT ELMWOOD
Every spring the Robertson County Historical
Society hosts "An Evening at Elmwood,"
a fundraiser for the Historical Society.
Patrons are treated to box suppers at Elmwood
Cemetery and a walking tour of the cemetery,
where local citizens portray historic figures
that are buried at Elmwood. This annual
event has become very popular.

Both cemeteries have lots available for
sale at affordable prices. Elmwood Cemetery
has over two acres available for lot purchases,
